We have a Land Rover Discovery 4 with the 3.0 Diesel engine, the car came in running but knocked and had low oil pressure. My college rebuilt the engine but after refitting it, it would not start and it flagged a "cam sensor a out of range/performance" code. I put the scope on the cam sensor signal wire and got a perfect looking 0-5v square wave.
Jun 23, 2014. #1. i have a 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 loosing coolant - possible head gasket gone, its been into a main dealer and they have carried out leak test and say its a internal leak but at the same time wont 100% confirm it. ive done some digging around over the weekend and everyone seems to be surprised when they hear TDV6 head gasket goneDISCO 3 SE 2006 model: leaking oil from what looks like between oil and fuel cooler. Have to replace the entire unit as apparently there are no service kits available ie O rings and gaskets. Any solutions to problem. Could it be leaking elsewhere 18 hours work to replace it ?? 2012/08/16, 08:50 PM #2. I found that the cable was screwed fully in to the actuator shaft. Looking at the manual it states that the cable must be screwed into the actuator shaft 5 full turns only, that was causing the jam. Decided to remove the motor/gearbox and found one of the nylon gears was stripped, luckily I had purchased a spare set.

Two solve this there are two solutions, one is to replace the faulty part with a new item which is costly and the same problem can occur with time. The second solution is to clean the EGR valve and block the EGR pipework with some metal plates which stop the exhaust gasses from being recirculated into the inlet manifold. The crankshaft in the Land Rover 3.0 TDV6 engine is the main cause of failure. This is because by design the crankshaft is compact and narrow, meaning it has weak points between the rod bearing journals and counterweights. So this means the weak point in it’s construction are stressed not only by normal operation but with poor maintenance My experience is we had an SDV6 also break the crankshaft at about 180,000kms in a similar fashion, knock knock knock, pull over and car died on side of the road. Our fix was to source a lower km second hand motor (ours is a 2012 Disco 4, so it was well out of warranty) after our quote from LR Australia was given to us ($40k). .
