The DSG transmission (you where asking for automatic) are known to be not that durable but that is an issue you will find with other models and brands from VAG as well. Economy is the same if not slightly better than its manual equivalent. The main thing with the DSG is that at between 40 and 45000 miles, the DSG gearbox oil needs changing, and its quite expensive to do (even at independent specialists).
